Location Washington-Eastern/Spokane
Salary None specified USD
Responsibilities Are you the type of copy editor who saves the day, like, every day? We wish you’d come save ours. The Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Wash., is looking for a sharp, aggressive and motivated copy editor who can hit the ground running. Applicants should speak fluent AP style, write irresistible and irresistibly accurate headlines and have an innate understanding of -- and the ability to execute -- page design that melds words and images to best communicate the stories of the communities we cover. This is a job for someone who wants to edit the local section one day, work the rim the next, run the wires the next, and then maybe run the whole show. We’ll start you off with the basics, but we need someone who wants to do some of everything.

We’re looking for applicants with three years of copy editing experience, but we’ll consider more recent college graduates who can demonstrate their exceptional abilities. This is a job on the night desk.

What’s in it for you? Spokane, a city of 200,000 in a metropolitan area of about half a million people, sits within day-trip distance of: mountains, glacial lakes, Canada, Idaho, the high desert, cedar groves, hiking trails, and a bunch of ski resorts. More the indoors type? We have a flourishing downtown, trendy restaurants and smart theaters, a bunch of universities and enough yoga studios to choke a downward-facing dog.

The Spokesman-Review is a friendly workplace that has for years been an online leader. Our print circulation is 92,000 daily and 112,000 Sundays. We offer competitive salaries and benefits.

We need to fill this position soon. Please e-mail your resume (and PDFs of your designs and headlines, if you have them handy; if not, just hurry along the resume and send the work samples later) to news editor Bertil Peterson at bertilp@spokesman.com and deputy news editor Adrian Rogers at adrianr@spokesman.com.
