17 for 100: TSN Wins Pacemaker Again
Now in its 100th year, The State News was awarded its 17th Pacemaker award -- symbolizing collegiate journalism supremacy -- at this year's Associated Collegiate Press convention in Austin, Tx.
It is the second year in a row TSN has won the award, given to the best college newspapers in the nation, as judged by the ACP.
Sharing the Pacemaker with TSN were papers from Yale, Minnesota, Oregon, Kent State and Ball State.
The newspaper was also a finalist for an Online Pacemaker, honoring the news Web site of the year.
TSN staffers also placed in six individual categories. To-wit:
-- In the news story category, Jacob Carpenter won first place.
-- The advertising and production departments placed first for ad campaign.
-- Photo Editor Hannah Engelson placed second for picture story.
-- Honorable mention honors went to visual editor Andrea Zagata (illustration) and S'News photo alums Katie Rausch (sports picture) and Samantha Ruiz (spot news photo).
TSN also placed in four categories in this year's College Media Advisers Best of Collegiate Design competition.
Winners were:
-- Former S'Newser Chad Powell, first place, News Page
-- Design editor Chelsea McGorisk, fifth place, News Page
-- Former S'Newser Colleen Maxwell, first place, Sports Page
-- Staff, fourth place, Advertisement.
